There are a number of fabulous Burger Nights found on Martha’s Vineyard, including the ever popular 2-for-1 Burgers at Atria (Sundays) and Burger Night at State Road (Thursdays). Now, you can enjoy the American classic on Friday nights at Waterside Market in Vineyard Haven.
Yes, Vineyard Haven residents, rejoice. You can stay close to home for dinner out. Of course the rest of us Islanders benefit too.
Waterside is even more amazing with its new location. It’s so much more open and welcoming, and there is still porch seating available when the nights are not too chilly. The place that many have come to love for breakfast and lunch is a great spot for dinner.
Burgers Done Differently
Typically, you find that your specialty burger is piled high with toppings. However at Waterside, Chef Anthony Carroll does it a little differently. He takes the ingredients and adds it to the burger meat mix.
So, my Firehouse Burger ($11), which looks so innocent, has jalapeños, bacon, spinach, tomato, sriracha, cheddar, and a little ranch hidden inside. Cooked perfectly to medium rare, I got to enjoy a flavor-packed burger, mess free.
It’s crazy. I’ve never had a burger like that, and I think kinda loved it.
My husband had the Hickory Burger ($11), which had cheddar, BBQ sauce, and bacon. He too was a fan! I think next time I want to try the Black & Bleu – bacon and bleu cheese topped with lettuce and tomato. Our friend Sam, out with his family, got it and gave it a big thumbs up.
I also have to mention that the burgers come with house-made handcut fries, and that there are a number of burgers to choose from in addition to a delicious sounding veggie burger.
What’s also great is that you can enjoy your burger with a beer or a glass of wine. With Vineyard Haven no longer being a dry town, you can just randomly decide that you want to go out for a bite and a bevy.
Waterside offers a nice selection. There are a number of carefully selected bottled beers, including Anchor Steam, Brooklyn Lager, Moretti, and a little local flavor, our own Bad Martha.
For wine drinkers, there are some good reds and whites to choose from. I was really happy to see La Crema pinot noir as one of the reds. It’s one that I personally like. That, along with my burger, a cozy sweater, my family, and a chilly night on the porch. A picture perfect Friday night.
Speaking of family, bring the kiddos with you. Waterside’s delicious grilled cheese and the rest of the kids’ menu is available. They can even get pancakes. Everyone wins!
If burgers aren’t your thing, not to worry, you can get something from the breakfast menu or choose from their sandwich menu. It’s always a good time for the French Quarter with roast beef, melted brie, organic greens, tomatoes, onions and little horseradish on ciabatta. I’ve adored that sandwich for years now.
Burger Night at Waterside Market will be offered at least until the end of the year. I bet if it’s popular, they’ll keep it going.
In addition, there will be new menu items added soon. Here’s a little tease: Rice Bowls, four homemade soups daily, and they’re currently featuring a pulled pork sandwich on ciabatta with bacon and cheddar, and line caught mahi mahi tacos.
Oh, now I am really hungry. I think I might need to try the pulled pork sandwich for lunch this week.
