Yes my friends, it is time to make the pilgrimage up-Island to Chilmark Chocolates. Past the crocuses and fields on roads with no traffic, it’s like a little adventure with a very sweet and tasty reward at the end.
Learning my lesson from Christmas, when it was closed before I was able to go, I went early for my Easter candy stockpile. No need to worry if you haven’t gone yet — Chilmark Chocolates is open everyday this week except for Sunday.
After that, Chilmark Chocolates won’t open again until April 26th. I should also mention that it’s open until 5:30 p.m. So, you might even be able to head up after work. I went around 4:30 p.m., and had the place to myself, which is always a good thing, if like me, you have special requests from family members.
The store was packed full of Easter goodies, from Easter-themed chocolate pops, to jelly beans (including spicy ones!!), to chocolate rabbits, and of course those signature Easter boxes for the chocolates. I was so busy picking out candy for people that I missed the fact that my daughter ate a handful of chocolates.
I was so focused on the task at hand that I wasn’t watching my two-year-old as close as I should have, but that big smile and chocolate rimmed mouth definitely made me laugh. Thank goodness Marcella, who was helping us out, was really sweet and thought it funny too.
Let’s talk about some of my favs. Of course I had to get a “couple” for myself, after all it’s hard work getting ready for Easter. I love the Squibnocket, the Heavenly Hazelnut and those yummy Tashmoo Truffles, and why can I not stop eating their buttercrunch! Yummy – I should have bought an extra box for myself. Perhaps my husband won’t miss his.
On your way out, don’t forget to stop at Allen Sheep Farm and take in the view and check out the sheep. No matter what your age is, this scene will warm your heart and soul.
So, after reading this, I hope you are inspired to take a long lunch break or leave work a little early, but whatever you do, make your way to Chilmark Chocolates, and make your Easter even more wonderful.
Also, I would like to wish my friends a Happy Passover, and Chilmark Chocolates has a number of Passover treats too!

Is Mary Beth Grady still associated with Chilmark Chocolates?
I am not sure of that. Sorry.
