Where’s your favorite place to grab pizza in Edgartown? Well, that may change with the addition of Isola, owned by Peter Sullo (Rocco’s Pizzeria – Vineyard Haven)
Isola, aptly named and sounding so romantic (means island in Italian), is where Lattanzi’s used to be in Edgartown. So, if you are one of the many who were sad to see it close, don’t you worry.
Isola has something for everyone. It has a pizzeria, a gourmet Italian restaurant, and great take-out. For this On Point, I’m going to focus on the pizza and the take-out, saving the restaurant for its own piece.
Pizza Pie, The Apple Of My Eye
Everyone loves pizza, and I was excited to hear that Isola’s pizzeria opened last Saturday. So, I planned dinner and a movie for me and the kiddos.
After seeing Planes, Fire and Rescue, we walked over to Isola to grab a pie or two. The entrance way is new and inviting.
The space itself has been completely renovated and is fresh and modern. I liked it.
The menu is simple, and makes ordering easy. There are a couple of salads and a great selection of pizzas.
You can even choose gluten free options for each one, a bonus for people on the Island.
I got a cheese and pepperoni for the kiddos, basic but always a hit. For me, I got the “Fun Guy,” which has roasted crimini and portobello mushrooms, white truffle oil, and fresh spinach. Doesn’t that sound amazing?
I love truffle oil and the rest of the toppings seemed in perfect harmony.
I almost got the Buffalo Chicken, which I knew my hubby would have appreciated, since there would definitely be leftovers, but I knew the “Fun Guy” was for me, plus I like the name, a little play on words.
The pizza came pretty quickly and was served on cute pizza holders. My little ones gobbled theirs up, which was great, because I could actually eat mine too.
I loved mine, a little dash of salt and parm cheese and I was in mushroom pie heaven.
Isola, not even open a week, is still evolving. Currently Isola offers soda, red wine, pinot grigio, and beer, but soon there will be more beverage options.
So, if you they don’t have what you prefer today, not to worry.
I will definitely be heading back to Isola for pizza. I liked the pies, the location, and the new crisp interior.
Also, it was nice to have dinner for under $50 and sometimes pizza is the way to go. You can get your meat and veggies all in one bite.
I should mention that Isola has quite the selection of pizza toppings – pretty much anything you could want, from eggplant to meatballs to roasted garlic to baby arugula.
You can build a pretty amazing pizza here with all the options. Also for those who love Hawaiian pizza, which is hard to find on Martha’s Vineyard, they have it on the menu.
Pizza take-out is easy too. There’s a side window for pick-up so you don’t even need to enter the restaurant. Convenient don’t you think?
Isola Healthy Options
By the Post Office, you’ll find Isola take-out. It’s also nick-named Healthy Habit. You’ll find Isola owner Peter Sullo’s daughter, Gabrielle Sullo there, whipping up healthy take-out options.
Gabrielle is focused on healthy eating, and prepares a number of options to choose from including her raw “Amazeballs” that are gluten free and chock full of good for you stuff.
There are lots of gluten free baked goods, fruit, housmade fruit infused water and more.
You can learn more about Gabby on her blog, Lovin’ Your Guts, Where My Love for Food and my Love for Health are One.
In addition to the healthy stuff, there’s pizza of course. You can grab a slice and a drink and head back to enjoying summer on the Vineyard. Also, you can relax in the outdoor space that’s there now which is pretty nice.
I love that you can grab a slice of pizza right off Main Street, and of course that you can also find some healthy options when you need to eat on the run.
Isola pizzeria is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. You can visit Isola take-out until 7 p.m. and Isola the restaurant is open from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Look for the On Point about the restaurant. Being an Italian food junky, I want to really delve into the experience, also it’s rumored they make amazing martinis.
On a side note, Isola is a family run business. Owner Peter Sullo has his sons, his daughter, his niece Skylar who I love, cousins, and more helping out. I think that’s really special, another reason that Isola is a wonderful addition to Edagrtown. One that’s only going to get better.
Thanks for reading the On Point Blog. You can learn more about Isola on Facebook. And speaking of social media, don’t forget to “Like” us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter, Linked In, Google+, Pinterest and YouTube.
My wife and I moved here three years ago and have been disappointed that we couldn’t find a 12 month a year good Italian restaurant one that served lunch, early bird specials and dinner after 4 o’clock .. we’re both Italian, ate out almost every day either lunch or early bird, as we both worked from 4 in the morning till 3 PM.. I worked in the Food Service business for 52 years.. in sales to all the distributors in new England, as well as calling on Papa Ginos and Bertucci’s corporate offices.. we are looking forward to enjoying a great meal In Isola… Good Luck, and God Bless…..
Frank – I hope you enjoy as much as I do!!
Peter
