Now in it’s fourth year, the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite has established itself as an important fundraiser for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club.
Last year, the event raised over $10,000 for the Club’s After School Program. This year, our goal is to raise $12,000 and have an even bigger impact on the lives of so many Island families and their children who call the Club home after school.
The Games Room
The $12,000 is going to help completely renovate the popular Games Room that is used daily by anywhere from 80 to 120 children.
This room sees the most use in the Club, and it needs a lot of work. It’s where children play games, watch movies, have snack, and more. So what does this overhaul entail?
It means new carpet, which is desperately needed. New paint on the walls, a new ping pong table, since the current one — which sees a lot of use — is about to break, and a new flatscreen TV to replace the old enormous one that doesn’t work well and more.
It means that there will be new stuff for the children to enjoy and make their time at the Club even better.
I have to tell you that Executive Director Peter Lambos is particularly happy about the new carpet, which he proudly picked out.
Every dollar raised is going to benefit the children directly. The kids at the Club are so excited to have one of their favorite places spruced up, and made more fun. I think parents will appreciate it too. This room needs this update.
Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite Expansion
With a bigger goal, we knew we had to do even more with the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite. So we’re doing just that.
Instead of having the event happen only during Christmas in Edgartown, we’re opening the doors on THANKSGIVING DAY, and the Teddy Bear Suite will be open daily until December 28th!
Also, we’ve moved the Teddy Bear Suite to the Captains Cottages at the Harbor View Hotel. We’ve outgrown our hotel room and are taking over one of the cottages, the Captain Rowley Cottage, for a whole month! This is so exciting for all of us involved.
You’ll find our new big bear Obie there along with Edgar, Chappy, and TisBeary. And since we have more space, we had to get more bears!
You now have the opportunity to come to the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite, where holiday memories are made again and again.
The Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite does not have an admission fee, but we hope that you’ll donate to the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club when you visit. We have a big fundraising goal and the Club is depending on the teddy bears for help.
