After meeting with MV Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Peter Lambos, we’re pleased to announce that all the money raised at The Teddy Bear Suite will go to benefit the “Power Hour” homework assistance program.
Power Hour Homework Helper
Power Hour is the educational part of the popular Boys & Girls Club After School Program. The Power Hour is overseen by a former teacher, who also provides tutoring help if needed. On any given day, 15 – 20 kids use the Power Hour to do their homework.
We thought playing a fundraising role in the educational part of the program was a good match with our goals. Along with the enchantment and family fun of our Teddy Bear Suite, we’ll have a number of teddy bear themed books that the kids can read and enjoy as well.
After School Program
The entire three-plus hour After School Program encompasses, education, art, sports, games, and other activites on a daily basis from 2:40 pm to 6 pm, for about 100 children a day. Over the course of the school year, some 300 – 400 islander kindergarten to sixth grade kids are served by this popular program. While parents are charged $20 per child for the year, the actual program cost is more like $1,500 per child.
Our goal is to help close some of that gap with the Power Hour. Check our Facebook Events page for a complete schedule of The Teddy Bear Suite at The Harbor View Hotel.
