Sometimes it’s nice to have a little something to do after the beach and before dinner on a Saturday, during the Summer months on Martha’s Vineyard. The Saturday Stroll is the perfect activity.
On Saturdays, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. thru Columbus Day, Main Street in Vineyard Haven is a great place to be. Not only are stores open later for the evening, but there’s music and much more to be found on Main Street and beyond.
The Vineyard Business Association in collaboration with the Chamber and the Vineyard Haven Harbor Cultural District are working hard to make this the night to come into town.
Local Music
There are three to four musical acts, each at a different location in town. From violin to Soundwave, a new a cappella group, it’s wonderful to hear live music while shopping and walking around.
The musicians are not paid, but rather make their money from tips from music listeners. Usually it’s a challenge for them to get a busking license (play for tips), but the Vineyard Business Association has done the work for them. So, they can play, bringing joy to people passing by, and make money too.
Shopping Local
Each week, there are “spotlight” stores. These stores will have beverages and snacks for shoppers, some will offer a free gift with purchase too. CB Stark was giving away beautiful commemorative key chains with purchases there.
Also, many stores will offer specials. Rainy Day had munchies and was offering 15% off your purchase during the stroll. It just so happens that my daughter has a birthday party to go to next weekend, and this seemed the perfect time to grab a gift. Be careful, because you’re sure to find something fabulous for yourself, like this adorable lobster clutch.
Citrine and Juliska were offering specials too this evening. I always have to stop in Citrine to see the latest in local jewelry and accessories! Citrine is also going to be hosting tarot card readings by Andrea Hirt or the highly sought after henna tattoos by Maple Mehndi.
A number of stores will also be hosting special events during the hours of the stroll. Brickyard plans to host a number of trunk shows on these evenings, a perfect tie into an already popular evening.
Most of Main Street and some stores beyond are participating in this Summer long series of strolls. It really is a great way to remind people that Vineyard Haven has great shopping.
Dining in Town
The Tisbury Saturday Stroll is also a great reason to have dinner in town. Fella’s offers its “Backyard BBQ,” pizza and more at Bobby B’s Pizza, you can get your Asian food fix at Copperwok, create an amazing burrito at La Choza, and don’t forget about Waterside Market too. And, there’s always room for ice cream at Mad Martha’s (raspberry cheesecake, yes please)!
Don’t forget that it’s only a short walk down to the harbor where you’ll find other great dining options, like Garde East, Beach Road, Wolf’s Den, and The Net Result.
There’s your itinerary for next Saturday, beach, Saturday Stroll, dinner in town. Boom done! You don’t even have to think about it. Just relax, shop, and supper.
