Point B Realty founder/owner Wendy Harman receives Good Neighbor Award from the Cape Cod & Islands Association of Realtors®. This is the first time the group has given this award.
“This award is given to a CCIAOR member who has made an extraordinary commitment to improving the quality of life in their community through volunteer work, educational programs, youth/elder activities, and any other civic or charitable work,” according to the criteria for the Good Neighbor Award.
Wendy Harman Receives Good Neighbor Award
Wendy founded Point B Realty, her Martha’s Vineyard real estate agency 10 years ago in Edgartown. Two years later, she also created and launched the now-annual holiday fundraiser, the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite. And it is that fundraising work that the CCIAOR recognized with its Good Neighbor Award.
Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite Fundraiser Tops $170,000
The Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite, a place where holiday memories are made, has raised over $170,000 for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club after-school programs over the last eight years.
In recent years, the Teddy Bear Suite has focused its efforts on raising the money to underwrite the Club’s Healthy Happy Kids. The H2K program provides food for one in three Island public school children in grades kindergarten thru eighth. It’s a program that’s making a significant difference.
In 2018 alone, the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite raised $45,000 which was enough to fund the vital food program. Healthy Happy Kids is a major resource for addressing childhood hunger and food insecurity on Martha’s Vineyard.
“Wendy, like many REALTORS®, is a real person making a real difference in her neighborhood. REALTORS® are invested in making where they live and work a better place and it is our honor to be able to honor Wendy for her drive and commitment to the Boys and Girls Club of Martha’s Vineyard,” said Joe Arnao, president of CCIAOR.
Giving Back To The Community Is Core To Point B Realty
For Wendy and her Point B Realty team, giving back to the community is a core part of the company’s culture. Whether through volunteer efforts, donations, fundraising with the Teddy Bear Suite, or even supporting Island non-profits and businesses with our On Point MV Blog, our goal is to support the people who help make Martha’s Vineyard the special place it is.
“It’s very humbling to receive the Good Neighbor Award,” said Wendy. “Being a good neighbor, trying to make a difference — it’s important to me. I try to live my life that way but being recognized by my peers and receiving the award, it’s humbling and I’m grateful. “
CCIAOR Donates $500 To MV Boys & Girls Club In Wendy’s Honor
The Good Neighbor Award is even more special because the CCIAOR also awarded the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club with a $500 donation in Wendy’s honor. Executive Director, Jessie Damroth, was grateful for the donation, and agreed completely with the CCIAOR’s choice for the inaugural Good Neighbor Award, since Jesse has seen first hand just how dedicated Wendy has been.
Thank you to the Cape Cod & Islands Association of REALTORS® for the Good Neighbor Award. Though our efforts are meant to benefit the children of the Club, it is a gift to be recognized by our peers for our the work we’ve done and will continue to do in our community.
