Have you ever stopped at North Tabor Farm, off North Road, to get eggs or their amazing greens when up-island? I know I have many times. When I heard about their new farm stand, I had to make a special trip to check it out. The changes are quite impressive, and the farm stand has a well curated selection of items, making it a great addition to our We Love MV series. WE LOVE MV: North Tabor Farm’s New Farm Stand Has More To Offer – New Look, New Offerings
North Tabor Farm has been owned by Rebecca Miller and Matthew Dix since 1994. It is a small 6-acre family farm, in Chilmark. Over the years, North Tabor Farm has become one of the most well-known sources for greens on the Island. Its gourmet “salad mix” is a staple in many restaurants.
The farm is also known for its eggs, tomatoes and of course shiitake mushrooms. These are just a few of the items from the farm. I mention shiitake mushrooms because when on a Farm. Field. Sea. culinary experience a couple of years ago, I was able to see and learn about North Tabor’s mushrooms. Seeing how they grow their shiitake mushrooms was very interesting. They are so much more delicious than those from the grocery store.
WE LOVE MV: North Tabor Farm’s New Farm Stand Has More To Offer At Its New Location
The North Tabor Farm stand is no longer right off North Road. Now, you turn into the farm. There are clearly marked parking spots, and the stand itself is now a building with an entrance and an exit.
Walking inside, I was immediately impressed with what they were offering. North Tabor Farm has become a stop not only for farm fresh produce but also a selection of curated provisions.
WE LOVE MV: North Tabor Farm’s New Farm Stand Has More To Offer – Meats, Ice Cream, Bagels & Coffee
From local frozen meat, bagels, to soup, to organic veggies (local are seasonal), to local honey, snacks, even Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, you can find it here. This expansion is brilliant! When COVID hit last year, it was challenging to get groceries. Now, you can stop at North Tabor Farm for a number of essentials.
There is even a Square for credit card payments. It’s quite the farm stand! While I miss how quaint it was, I definitely appreciate the variety of items available! You could easily stop there and stock up for a Menemsha sunset.
North Tabor Farm is open from dusk to dawn daily. Eggs are usually brought in between 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This is a working farm, so the owners do ask people to leave their pets in the car. You can call 508-645-3311 if you have more questions.
North Tabor Farm is passionate about small scale farming and using local food production to enhance the fabric of the island community.”
