There has been some grumbling about the changes at Back Door Donuts – the change in the logo and marketing, the renovated inside, etc. But not to worry, the things many of us love about Back Door Donuts have remained the same but with some great additions.
WE LOVE MV: Donut Worry
The best part about Back Door Donuts, the donuts themselves, are the same. Baker, Raffi Jabri, is still the man behind the magic. Yes, there may come new flavors, and he may have a day off or two, but he is at the shop, still passionate about these tasty treats we can’t get enough of.
In addition to fritters and donuts, did you know you can get so many other baked goods? Cakes, cupcakes, pasties, and more including their Strawberry Shortcake which looks more like a piece of art than a scrumptious dessert. On your next visit to the front, take a moment to look in the dessert case. You may leave with something different next time, a new favorite!
WE LOVE MV: Coffee Confections
Before we talk about the really good coffee at Back Door Donuts, we have to talk about the new manager, Darya Shelby. She is a wonderful new addition to Back Door Donuts for many reasons. First, she is community oriented, second, she loves Martha’s Vineyard, and third, she’s a great person! Added bonuses – She loves BDD, and she is a big fan of good coffee.
BDD carries La Colombe. By itself, the coffee is really good – hot, cold, latte, etc. However, Darya has found a way to introduce truly special coffee to BDD. She has partnered with a small company, Pink House Alchemy, to bring speciality, small batch syrup flavors to the shop. For example, since it’s Fall, you can find not just pumpkin syrup but a Pumpkin Butternut Spice coffee beverage or steamer.
I stopped by specifically to order an iced Mexican Chile Mocha. Yes this has that perfect balance of sweet and spicy! It is definitely one of my new favorite coffee drinks. Pink House Alchemy has the best syrups and fun flavors, and BDD is the only place that has them commercially on the East coast!
WE LOVE MV: Back Door Donut News
First, we have BREAKING NEWS – BACK DOOR DONUTS IS STAYING OPEN THROUGH MID NOVEMBER. That’s right when darkness comes early, the sweet smell of donuts will be there to lure us into Oak Bluffs, and bring a smile to face, especially our kiddos.
How long it’s open and how often really depends on us patronizing it. The owners, Darya and the team really want to be there for the community long after the craziness of the Summer is gone.
In addition to staying open longer, they are launching Donut to Donate! For these events, 30% of the donut sales and coffee will go directly to the non-profit partner. The first one is Saturday, October 17th, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Sandy Paws Rescue which is a non profit that helps rescue and find homes for cats and dogs. This is an organization near and dear to Darya. If you’re looking to adopt – be sure to stop by.
If you are a non-profit that would like to partner with BDD, email Darya – manaager@backdoordonuts.com. This is such a great way to help our Island non-profits that need of support and awareness.
WE LOVE MV: More BDD to LOVE
In addition to donuts and other delicious baked goods, Back Door Donuts does weddings, birthdays, business events, you name it and they can make it sweeter! Also, don’t forget the brownie points you could get by surprising friends, family or coworkers with a donut or dozen!
Want even more BDD in your life, check out all the new merchandise they have in stock – from coffee mugs, to stickers to incredibly awesome sweatshirts! You can also order merch on line!
Currently, Back Door Donuts’ Bakery is closed Tuesdays, open Wednesday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the Back Door open Wednesday – Sunday, 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. However, as the season slows, I would definitely check the BBD website for up to date hours.
