Where does one go for lunch when you’re in the middle of the Island of Martha’s Vineyard? Well, before you’d have to go head all the way into one of the towns to grab a bite, but that is no longer true. I heard it through the grapevine that there was a great new place joining the Vineyard food scene.
The Starlite Lounge Take-Away opened it’s doors two weeks ago at the Airport Business Park. Next to Island Source (Vineyard Bottled Water) and across from Fed Ex, you will find Annie Foley Catering, the home of Starlite Lounge, where it can be quite the scene for lunch.
Annie has been catering Island events for over 20 years, and this lady can cook! She has had a commercial kitchen at the airport for about eight years now. Since catering season on the Island is short, she has been wanting to do something for the remaining three seasons on the Island.
The stars aligned this year, and she opened the Starlite Lounge. This was the year for it to happen. Admiring the stars one night at home, the name came to her, and now there’s a new place to get amazing, fresh food-to-go on the Island.
Seeing Stars
Open Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3-ish, the Starlite Lounge’s menu changes daily. However, there will usually be a soup/strew, vegetarian option, a wrap, a hot hearty dish, and fresh baked treats like cookies or brownies. It’s not a fancy place that’s for sure, but the food that comes out of this commercial kitchen will impress you.
When I was heading over, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Walking in, there were some familiar faces ordering lunch, like Mike Benjamin. With him and others, you could find some great conversation happening. Annie was behind the counter, chatting and serving up the food to go.
That day, there was Annie’s signature chicken salad with pecans and grapes for the wrap, kale & sausage soup, wonton soup, and creamy chicken & mushroom over orzo pasta. The orzo looked amazing. Mike got that.
I went for the wrap. I like trying signature dishes when possible, and it was a warm day so I was something not to heavy or warm. Though I imagine on chilly days, her warm dishes are going to sell like hotcakes!
The wrap was delicious. I am a really picky chicken salad person. I don’t like celery, and this was celery free. I loved the sweetness of the grapes with the creaminess of the chicken and mayo and the crunch of the pecans. I’d defiantly have it again.
Annie tried to tempt me with her cookies that had just come out of the oven, but I resisted, somehow. Though they smelled amazing, and the brownies she had looked equally inviting.
At Starlite Lounge Take-Away (no seating available, just take-away), Annie is creative with what she makes, offering customers the chance to weigh in on the menu which changes daily. She uses good ingredients and creates food with great flavor. It’s a little foodie gem in the middle of MV.
Dinner Too
An added bonus is that you can grab one thing for lunch and then get something else to take home for dinner. You can take care of two meals with one stop. The creamy chicken orzo would have been amazing for dinner I bet.
Annie plans to have the Starlite Lounge open Fall, Winter, and Spring, closing during the Summer when she is booked for catering. This three season spot is a great addition to the Island food scene. With the location, there’s no competition. It’s just her for this type of fresh food to go.
The only bummer is that when something is gone, it’s gone, sold out. So, you might want to get there early.
