Since early Fall, I have been keeping a list of things that really catch my eye in stores. I would think to myself — how wonderful is this, but of course, it was always something I didn’t need. So, these items have made it to my personal “wish list.” This is a small representation of the things I love in local stores. There are many more things, but this is a good start to Shop Local MV This Holiday Season – A Few Of Our Favorite Things On Martha’s Vineyard, priced from $25 to $150.
SHOP LOCAL MV This Holiday Season – $150 & Under
If you have a budget of $150, then you are in luck. You can find so many things under that price point.
For the bag lover, you know who you are. Like me, you have so many bags — tote bags, clutches, purses, shopping bags, etc. I am smitten with the whimsical Bug & Rabbit over the shoulder Wash-ashore tote. It’s fun and definitely has a young vibe to it. You can find it at Coastal Supply Company in Vineyard Haven. The bags currently are $158, but we have a 20% off discount online, use Promo Code: HOLIDAY20 at checkout, click here.
For some people, jewelry is always on their list. One of my personal favorite’s is the “M & M” necklace. Each one is made to show your love of the Island. This is a subtle (with the small version). You can find these, the large and small are under $75.00 at Dockside Jewelers.
Are you looking for the perfect catch all basket or something special and handmade from the Island? Well, Basket Case MV has the perfect handmade baskets for you. Island artist M-C Lamarre has teamed with Juniper in Edgartown, who will exclusively offer her new line of #BasketCaseMV’s “Basket-in-a-Box”($75.00)! The perfect grab and go gift for yourself or others!!! You can visit the shop on weekends or by appointment. You can also order online at junipermv.com.
It’s sweater weather and you can find a great selection of Pink Pineapple sweaters at Coastal Supply Co. in Vineyard Haven. The Islander is the one that I have my eye on, but there’s also one that has MVY that is cute too! Last time I checked, these sweaters were on sale for $99.
At North Water Street Gallery, you will find the most wonderful ceramic horseshoe crabs by artist Mark Rea. The small size in his collection is $98. If there is someone on your list who is a fan of these fabulous creatures that grace our shores, this is sure to wow them and be a great addition to their home or office. The small one is $98, the medium is $150.
The up-cycled Oyster Bags from Tangerine are very cool. They are hand made from oyster farming materials by an oyster farmer in MA. These bags are made from Oyster Mesh, and are virtually indestructible, and are super easy to care for — they don’t hold onto dirt or sand — and can be hosed off if they get messy. The petite Oyster Bag is $89, a market tote and jumbo tote are available.
I have been following MV Iron Maiden on social media for a while now. Her name is not only awesome, but Lisa Leonard does create incredible metal art. Just in time for the holidays, you can get a Vineyard house number. These are $150 and are available online at The Vineyard Company, a new resource for buying local art.

We all have a Yeti or two, and I know that I don’t need another. However, the Yetis at Island Outfitters MV in Oak Bluffs are a must have. There is something about this Island embossed Yeti that I can’t get enough of. The colors are great too. Various pricing but be aware these sell out quickly! Of course you can order them online, but half of the fun is checking out the new, updated version of this great shop!
One of my favorite smells of Summer on Martha’s Vineyard is that coming from Back Door Donuts late in the evening. Don’t worry, I too have a craving for a donut now, coconut please. If you’re an Apple Fritter fan, we have a sweet surprise for you! You can order a 1/2 dozen of these iconic Island treats for and be a holiday hero! These can be shipped for $48 or picked-up for $39 at the bakery. Now I know the warm ones are the best, but 10 seconds in the microwave and you’re golden.
Hats are always fun to get and give. Slip 77 doesn’t disappoint in its selection. I am a fan of so many of their things, but the Island Hopper hat with Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket is definitely one of my favorites. Sadly trucker hats don’t look that good on me so I will have to enjoy giving it as a gift, $29.
Are you dreaming of chilled oysters and bubbly from your favorite restaurants? Well, you are in luck! Did you know that you can order Cottage City Oysters online? For $50, you can have 25 of these delicious bites from the sea delivered to you on-Island. If you are off-Island, the price jumps a bit for 2-day delivery. *Shucking required.

Some people are car sticker people, and some people are not. I am not a car sticker person, however I love to show my love on the Vineyard with my Island Emblems, by Anthony Holland. You can find these at The Green Room for $20.00. Also did you know that you can schedule a time to shop at The Green Room? How great is that!
Want to add a little sparkle to someone’s life, but not break the bank? Barrington Bangles are fabulous handmade wire/stone bracelets. I don’t know much about these yet, but I do know that I discovered them at the Featherstone Holiday Gift Show. This is the one I got and it was only $22. I am definitely going back to get more!
A couple of year’s ago, I jumped on the fun tea/dish towel band wagon and now I feel like I can’t get enough. Island Artist Robin Nagle has created the cutest line – Cut Paper Island. Her towels are whimsical and have great personality, which you can shop to fit the recipient. You can get them online, at Black Sheep, MV Made, the Featherstone Holiday Gift Show, and of course at cutpaperisland.com.
Some of the best candles around are made on Island. Vineyard Wick & Bath is handmade in Oak Bluffs, and the scents are simply put, amazing. Made with a special soy wax formula, these candles burn so well. Vineyard Christmas smells like freshest pine! You can order VIneyard Wick & Bath candles online, click here or at various retailers around the Island, including Juniper, Rainy Day, Stefanie Wolf Designs, Suka, The Sanctuary, Bespoke Abode, and these are just a couple of local shops.
Give Back – the holidays are truly a magical time, and a wonderful gift idea for the person who has everything is a donation to an Island charity in the recipients name. Here are just a couple – you can donated to the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite, a fundraiser for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club, the Island Food Pantry, Red Stocking Fund, Island Housing Trust and Martha’s Vineyard Community Serives.
If you are more the gift certificate giver, Lift Certificates are a great option. The Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank is sponsoring a website where you can purchase gift certificates (at a reduced price) to Island businesses, Lift Certificates, ” Buy today to Save Tomorrow”.
