Remember in the past, wanting to go to MVY Radio’s Great Chowder Contest at the mini park on Main Street in Edgartown, but deciding not to because of the crowds? Or maybe that was just me. I always decided I wanted to go to late, and missed out.
However, now we can all go. The 31st Annual Great Chowder Contest has a new home, and there is plenty of space! The contest will now be held on the Kelley House property, with the entrance on Dock Street (Wave Bar). The new space offers the opportunity for so many more people to experience all the tasty entries. Also, did you know this is an all ages event? You can even bring the kiddos with you.
On Saturday, December 12th, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m you will be able to sample the creations of more than a dozen amateur and professional chefs. These talented foodies are competing for the bragging rights of making the Best Quahog Chowder or the Best Seafood Chowder.
Even though there’s a new, bigger space, it is still only $8 to enter. An added bonus is that the ticket sales benefit the Red Stocking Fund of Martha’s Vineyard.
I love these sort of things – tasting the subtle and big differences between the chefs/cooks and their chowders. Some may be creamy, some more broth-y, but I bet all the entries will be tasty.

That’s a good list. I know who might be my favorites in this list. How about you? Also, I wonder if there might be even more entries as it gets closer to Saturday, but that’s a lot for only $8!
Also, there will be a really fun band, the Honky Tonk Knights from Newport, RI- this rockabilly, honky tonk, blue grass, band has done a lot with MVY Radio and is a favorite of the station’s. They’re sure to get you moving!
