This is the Summer of stars on Martha’s Vineyard. Yes, the skies provide an amazing show nightly, but I mean celebrities and notables.
This is the inaugural year of the Martha’s Vineyard Concert Series which features a truly remarkable line up. Here’s just a few to get pique your interest even more, David Sedaris, the Taj Mahal Trio, Amy Goodman, and Paula Poundstone. There 11 different shows in this Vineyard-breaking series.
David Sedaris has been before, but how did this line-up come to be. This is happening because of seasonal resident — and Island homeowner — Adam Epstein. Adam’s company, Innovation Arts & Entertainment has been producing star studded shows for decades all over the world.
However, the one place that he feels most at home at, and where his heart is, here on Martha’s Vineyard, has yet to have a series over the Summer that offers Islanders and Summer residents the chance to see amazing artists (singers, political satirist, authors and more).
Adam is responsible for David Sedaris coming to the Island, but he wanted to do more. Since this is what he does, produce powerful shows and series that delight people and sell out, it was time for one to happen here. This year begins the Martha’s Vineyard Concert Series.
Behind The Stage
In January, Adam travelled to New York City for a conference where basically the shows and cities for the year are booked for the season. Adam spoke with several agents, and found that many didn’t really know much about Martha’s Vineyard. However, after speaking with Adam, agents wanted to have their clients perform here.
One of the things that was attractive was the ability to offer such intimate settings. The Old Whaling Church (built in 1843) in Edgartown is where most of the shows will be held. This 500 person venue is provides such a special place for people to see a performance. Also, since it’s right in town, you can easily make a whole night or even weekend out of a show (no car needed).
There are also a number of shows happening at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center. This too is a great location, centrally located (at the high school) and easily accessible to all towns, including Up-Island.
Adam is thrilled by the interest in the series. What started as three shows, quickly grew to four, and continued to grow, and now features 11 renowned artists. Adam could not be more thrilled with the enthusiasm he has encountered from agents, artists, and of course, people on the Island.
You like comedy? No problem, Paula Poundstone is performing Friday, July 1st — kicking off the Martha’s Vineyard Concert Series.
Perhaps jazz is something you’re passionate about? Grab tickets to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, which gets its name from Preservation Hall, the famous music venue found in New Orleans. This is one not to miss.
Maybe you just need to stop feeling disheartened about America’s current political state, and need to laugh a little about it. The Capital Steps, will bring you the humor you crave.
The Martha’s Vineyard Concert Series has something — or should I say someone — for everyone. This is going to help make the Summer even more memorable on the Island.
Adam & The Vineyard
Adam first came to the Island in the 1980’s. His Summer job might surprise you. He was a Vineyard Haven garbage man. Even though he saw a lot of the dirty side of the Island, he realized that this place was someplace special.
Fast forward. For his second wedding anniversary, he brought his wife, Mandy, to Martha’s Vineyard. And just like that, they came back every year. A couple years back, they decided to buy a home in Katama (real estate note: Point B helped the Epsteins find that home).
You may recognize them from our current advertising campaign, spotlighting clients that we have literally helped move from Point A to Point B in their Vineyard lifestyle experience.
Eventually it’s their goal to retire here. It’s this small Island that really feels like home. They love Chicago where they live year round but the Vineyard is special.
To bring this culturally rich series to a place that he loves means a lot. He produces hundreds of shows a year, but he is so proud of this one. The artists, the intimacy of the venues, and he loves the naturally inquisitive, intelligent audience the Vineyard has.
Wonder what’s going to come to the Island when Adam is here full time?
