Driving over the Lagoon Bridge into Vineyard Haven, you see the Martha’s Vineyard Museum regally perched on the hill overlooking the Lagoon. While the museum holds centuries worth of Island treasures and history, it is also home to a special cafe, the First Light Cafe – A Martha’s Vineyard Cafe For All Seasons
With a water view that takes your breath away, First Light Cafe is available for breakfasts/lunch 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday thru Sunday, closed on Monday, just like the museum. Perhaps you have been to the cafe before, or maybe you are yet to experience it. Either way, First Light Cafe has entered a new chapter that is sure to delight Islanders and visitors alike year round.
From fresh sandwiches, to garlic knots, to sesame noodles, to fresh baked donuts like the Banana Chocolate Cream Donuts — featured the day I stopped by — to specialty coffee drinks, teas and more, there is something new daily, made by the talented Island Chef Gina Stanley, to tempt you and keep you coming back for more.
Cafe Manager, Vincent Patricola, says the cafe has a balanced menu. A menu that has something for those with a sweet tooth, those that are vegan, are vegetarian, are craving for something savory or just want a snack. First Light Cafe has plenty of options. While the menu options vary daily, there are some staples like the scones, pita and hummus. So come hungry!
Looking to meet with a friend for coffee or tea? First Life Cafe is the place! There are lattes, espresso, matcha, available hot or cold, and a good assortment of other beverages. So make that coffee date and take in the panoramic views while enjoying each others company. It’s also a great location work or catch up on a book.
First Light Cafe – A Martha’s Vineyard Cafe For All Seasons – Sunday B-Side Brunch
On Sunday’s, First Light Cafe offers the Sunday B-Side Brunch. You’ll catch Vincent spinning classic vinyl tunes and there is an assortment of great food items to choose from. What’s the meaning of B-Side? Well I got the scoop from Vincent who has been DJing for over 30 years. The B-Side is the cut of a song preferred by the artist, not the most popular one. At brunch, there is a dive into deeper cuts, moments of music discovery. Add Sunday B-Side Brunch to your calendars for something fun and different to do.
First Light Cafe is a hidden gem – great food, coffee, a view and so much more! You do not need to visit the museum to go to the cafe, however the Martha’s Vineyard Museum is always a fun way to spend some time. Follow First Light Cafe on Instagram for specials, events, and more.
