Weigh-ins are a crucial part of the competition, taking place daily between 8:00-10:00 a.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. All fish must be weighed in within 14 hours of being caught and even if you plan to donate your catch, it’s essential to keep it properly iced until the weigh-in. Commercial license holders must adhere to recreational possession limits while Derby fishing, and any fish caught during commercial operations are not eligible. Daily and weekly prizes are awarded for first through fourth places in each category, and at the end of the Derby, overall prizes are given for the three largest fish in each division and species. Additionally, the largest fish of each species, whether caught from shore or boat, will compete for the prestigious Grand Leader Prize.

The 7th Annual Bass in the Grass Fundraiser, hosted by the Edgartown Board of Trade (EBT), celebrates the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby while supporting local artists, the EBT, and the Derby Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund, managed by the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby, Inc., awards financial aid to deserving Vineyard students each year.
From mid-September through October 20th, visitors can view the creatively decorated fiberglass bass sculptures at The Carnegie Heritage Center in Edgartown. These unique pieces of art are available for auction, with bids closing at the end of the Derby.
