Even with this great weather we’ve been having and the fact that Summer is almost here, we can still all use a little extra laughter in our lives. This weekend The Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard is bringing us just that. Legendary funny man Tim Conway and comedic impersonator and the Vineyard’s own, Louise DuArt, are going to be leaving us in stitches.
Emmy-award winning Tim Conway is probably one of the funniest people to ever grace the stage and TV. Many of us know him from the Carol Burnett Show where he definitely made his mark as a funny man, and of course Dorf, but you youngin’s may know him as the voice of Barnacle Boy on Spongebob Square Pants.
Through the years, Tim Conway has continued to make us laugh, and the best thing about his humor is that it can be enjoyed by people of all ages. He can make you laugh hysterically with good ole fashion clean humor.
Joining Mr. Conway on stage is the amazing Louise DuArt. Lousie has been called one of the world’s best comedic-impressionists. Some of her favorite people to impersonate are Judge Judy, Joan Rivers (especially since she can say just about anything and get away with it), Cher, George Burns, and Hillary Clinton. These are just a couple names. The list goes on and on!
I was lucky enough to stop by Louise’s home in Edgartown to meet this amazing woman, and get an idea of what to expect from this weekend’s performance. She and Tim have been touring the country with their show, Tim Conway and Friends, to sold out audiences for a number of years. They really enjoy working together and of course making people laugh.
For this weekend’s shows, Tim Conway will be doing a number of skits, including some from the Carol Burnett Show. Louise DuArt will be doing a number of skits as well, including her popular 25 Celebrities Stuck in an Elevator skit. I have to tell you a little bit about this one, since I was able to see some of Ms. DuArt’s impressions when at her home.
Imagine 25 celebs are stuck together with no where to go. Ms. DuArt shares with us what those celebs might be saying to each other in this uncomfortable situation. Since her impersonations are spot on, the whole thing is simply hysterical. Seriously, Barbra Streisand arguing with Joan Rivers? Could not be any funnier! Ms. DuArt is the first professionsal impersonater I have ever met, and the little that I got to see, left me wanting more!
Now that you are dying to see Tim Conway and Louise DuArt this weekend, you ‘ll have two chances to see these two funny friends. On Friday night, June 1st, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the legandary Tim Conway at An Evening with Tim Conway,at The Boathouse, downtown Edgartown, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm, where you’ll enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $100.00 and include premium seating for Saturday night’s show. This is an amazing chance to meet both Tim and Lousie – shake their hands and maybe get a small tease of what Saturday’s show will offer.
On Saturday night, they will be performing in the Tim Conway Show, at 7:00pm, at the MVRHS Performing Arts Center, in Oak Bluffs. Tickets for this event are only $20.oo, and since it’s guaranteed to make people of all ages laugh, grab the kids and even the grandparents, and have a fun night out.
On a serious note, these two fundraising events are being held to support a number of amazing charities including the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund and Island charities, the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club, Vineyard Power, the MVRHS Theater Department, and the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard Teen Center. Even more of a reason to shell out $100.00 or $20.00 to see this super funny duo. And because we believe in supporting all these efforts, Point B is proud to be one of the principal event sponsors.
The Martha’s Vineyard Rotary Club is well known for working hard to help support charitable organizations. They do so much for our Island charities, and also for national charities including the Cure for Alzheimer’s Fund. To find out a little more, you can watch the Rotary Cure Alzheimer’s Fund Video.
All of the proceeds from this event will go right to research to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s. Typically money raised goes to providing care for those with Alzheimer’s, but we really need to work hard together to find the cure. According to doctors at Mass General, there could be a cure for this deabilitating disease that plagues so many within the next five years, as long as there is money to keep funding the research. With this possibility within reach, The Rotarty Club, both locally and nationally, is working to make this cure a reality. Another great reason to get out and have some fun this weekend!
A special thanks to Tim Conway and Louise DuArt for doing these very special events. See you there! I know I’m ready for some laughs! To buy tickets right now, go to Tickets MV or for other locations check out The Martha’s Vineyard Rotary Club’s website.
