This past weekend was the 30th anniversary of Christmas in Edgartown, and what better way to celebrate such a milestone than by adding even more holiday wonder to this fantastic event with The Teddy Bear Suite. Suite 224 at the Harbor View Hotel and Resort was transformed into a magical space filled with teddy bears of all shapes and sizes, and it was filled with the spirit of Christmas. Not a single person was able to resist the charm of the teddy bears. Everyone who walked into the room smiled and shared in the joy.
Teddy Bear Suite A Huge Success
With the Teddy Bear Suite, the raffle table, and online donations, we were able to raise over $2,600 for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club’s “Power Hour” (the educational component of their popular After School Program). We surpassed our goal of $2,500, and needless to say, Peter Lambos, executive directer of the Club, was thrilled with the news. What a great feeling to know that so much joy was brought to kids of all ages, all weekend with the Teddy Bear Suite, and at the same time, people were helping to fund a program that does so much for the kids of our community.
Speaking of kids, I had a great time walking with boys and girls and staff from the Club in the parade. They were so proud and happy to be able to support a place so important to them. Of course, throwing candy to hundreds of people was fun for them too. However, you could really get a sense of the comraderie the kids share with each other and the staff. If you missed the weekend’s festivites, you can still help these wonderful kids and donate online to the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club.
Many To Thank
A huge thank you to all who stopped by, and to all those who helped to make the Teddy Bear Suite so successful and memorable. I know that I had a wonderful time with everyone I met throughout this event. I will always remember the laughter and smiles of the kids as they first entered the suite — the little girl who tucked in all the bears on one bed under the covers, so they were warm and could take a nap, since they were so busy, and of course, the group of adults who sat with me for thirty minutes sharing stories of the their favorite teddy bears. It’s amazing how many people have loved and continue to love these fuzzy friends.
Teddy Bear Suite 2012
We are already planning for next year! The response was so overwhelmingly postitive, and we have lots more in store. There will be some familiar faces and many new ones too — hopefully including you! We’d love to hear your stories from the Teddy Bear Suite. Share your story with us here on the blog, the Point B Facebook page or even my own Facebook page. Love to see your favorite teddy pictures too!
