Who doesn’t love a deal? I know I do. That’s why when I saw “All you can eat spaghetti dinner for four people at Isola” for $20 on a Facebook page I was intrigued.
I found the deal on Cape and MV Deals. There were also others on its Facebook page and its website as well. My interest was piqued and so I reached out to find out the scoop.
Cape and MV Deals is part of a publication called the Cape and Island Trader and is affiliated with This Week on Martha’s Vineyard, both run by Island resident Colin Young, who I met with to learn more about this fun new endeavor. I haven’t met with Colin since my early Plum TV days, so it was a treat to catch up.
Cape and MV Deals, which launched January 17th, is sure to become a stand-alone success. The concept is great for print but I feel like it’s going to thrive in the social media world!
Sites like Groupon, which offer discounted services, food, hotels, etc are pretty hot right now. Why not have one that highlights the Island? Also, Cape and MV Deals is a Groupon affiliate, and that means a larger inventory of local deals.
Since the site is just recently launched, there are only a few offers, but there are some good ones, like the one I mentioned about Isola. Some of the ones you can find include a $20.oo voucher for $10.00 from Skinny’s Fat Sandwiches or $150.00 worth of salon services from Wavelengths for $99.
Some of the deals require a minimum purchase to have it activated. So, people share the deals and they sell out. Your friends or co-workers are sharing in the deal with you.
Others are just straight forward deals, like the Isola one which I did purchase. I have until May to use my deal. The process to get it was simple. I just clicked on it and paid with Paypal, and the coupon was emailed to me. It was easy to use, and I am excited to try out my first Cape and MV Deals.
The deals change, so you might want to check back weekly to see if there are any that catch your eye, and remember the site is going to get bigger and more populated, especially as the Summer approaches.
What’s The Deal
Colin already has a very successful newspaper on the Island. This Week on Martha’s Vineayard has been a popular resource among the Summer crowd for almost 20 years. He also owns Dirty Water TV in Boston. Why add something new to the mix?
For Colin, it’s about doing something that Islanders would benefit from. Of course, anyone can benefit from Cape and MV Deals, but the fact that it offers specials year round is an added bonus. Also, the businesses he is working with are pretty fond of the concept. It gets people through the doors. If they’re busy, it helps make them even more busy, a win-win. Kelly from Tony’s says it’s been great for business!
Also, in today’s world, you have to figure out a way to use a number of different mediums, print, digital, and of course, social media. Cape and MV Deals is great for social media, the short life of the deals, featuring other businesses which can share as well gets the word out, and it ties back to the newspaper, you can also find them, in the Cape and Islands Trader.
It will be fun to watch Cape and MV Deals continue to grow. It’s kinda fun to have our own little local Groupon!
