Christmas in Edgartown, was even more amazing than it had been in the past. The people, the shops, the town, everyone seemed in the spirit. It was one of those weekends, when you just took a moment to savor how special the Island is.
It was a record couple of days for the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite as well. When the bears weren’t enjoying their moment in the spotlight on the Point B & Harbor View Hotel floats, they were all busy working hard bringing joy to kids of all ages.
The Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite in its fifth year has truly become a part of the holiday tradition on Martha’s Vineyard. The happiness it brings to so many — not just this weekend but for the month it is open — is remarkable, making the season even more special.
Through our annual raffle, donations at the teddy bear suite, and online, we have now raised $11,000+ for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club’s vital After School Program that serves hundreds of Island families. We are $4,000 away from our goal of $15,000.00 Why $15,000.00? We’d love to raise even more but that amount can really make a big impact.
$15,000 FUNDRAISING DOLLARS EQUAL:
- Bus transportation for over 60 kids each day after school to attend the Club
- Free snacks and meals for over 90 kids each day after school for the entire school year
- Program supplies for art, education, athletic, and recreation programs for an entire year

The True Spirit
The Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite is a big event, spanning a month. Within this time, a number of people volunteer their time and work hard to help raise the monies needed. Point B and the Boys & Girls Club and the Harbor View Hotel invest a lot. It’s personal for us.
In addition, we have to thank the numerous Island businesses that help support us. Through the raffle hosted during Christmas in Edgartown, we are able to raise money and awareness for the Club.
Our raffle items, though only four, get people excited! This year, we have to thank CB Stark (Edgartown and Tisbury) for the lovely mother/child Island Tie Bracelets they donated. Valued at almost $250, they were extremely popular with raffle ticket buyers. Deanna Laird was the lucky lady to win these. Deanna is an RN at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. We’re so glad for her to have these beautiful bracelets.
The Lure-Fish Menemsha artwork was won by Jeanie Scioccnetti. She, her family, and a group of friends came to MV for their first time last weekend as a memorial to her sister-in-law, who loved the Vineyard. They all stayed at the Harbor View Hotel and had a joyous time and loved the Teddy Bear Suite. Thank you Abe Pieciak for donating this piece and giving Jeanie something to remember from this weekend.
Who doesn’t want to spend a night in the luxurious Harbor View Hotel’s Captain’s Cottages and have breakfast? Well, lucky winner, Sharon Daly, who owns a house on Chappy, and lives there in the summer, and in Quincy during the winter months (as her MV home is not winterized), can now come enjoy a little off-season time.
She is an artist and part time manager of the Old Sculptin Gallery, where her work in shown. You can check out her work online sharonmccanndalystudio.com. She’ll have a wonderful time at the Harbor View. Thank you to all our friends at the hotel for this package
The most talked about raffle item, the Island Restaurant Experience, was won by Susan Stewart. She and her husband Scott recently purchased a house on the Island, but have been long time Vineyard visitors. How exciting to have the chance to explore 19 amazing restaurant/takeaways on Martha’s Vineyard.
We have so many people to thank for this raffle item. Island restaurant owners are so generous and so supportive, and we are grateful.
