I sometimes think that people don’t go out to dinner during the winter months for fear of being the only ones in a restaurant. That’s why I love writing our Frugal Foodie series which focuses on some of the best deals, and winter perks with the Island restaurant scene.
These nights are usually quite popular and offer a great way to get out, see friends, old and new, and have a great night out.
A couple of year’s ago, the Henry’s at the Harbor View Hotel started hosting a selection of nights that feature a “frugal foodie” special. Since then, Henry’s is really one of the hotspots to go have dinner this time of year.
The Burger Effect
As you many of you may know, I am a food fan and definitely a burger fan. So, I thought it was time to go to Henry’s Burger Night. I like a straight up simple burger night. Buy one ($18) get one free.
You get one of Henry’s house Black Angus burgers which features aged cheddar cheese, and brioche bun, along with all the necessary fixings like lettuce, tomato, special sauce, ketchup, and if you like, pickled onions. There’s even bacon hidden under all that cheese!
The burger is accompanied by fries or a salad but since you’re getting a big juicy burger, you might as well add truffle fries to the mix to complete the experience. I also like to add a beer, just to make it a truly indulgent meal.
Because the night is so popular, additional space for dining is added from the Lighthouse Grill. So whether you’re a party of two or six, Henry’s can accommodate, and it does get busy.
Another bonus about Burger Night is that it’s kid friendly. My kiddos love burgers and love truffle fries, so we made a boring Wednesday night into something a little more exciting, and we all left full and happy.
We left around 6:00 p.m. and the place was packed. There were so many people to say hi to and catch up with! It was a good scene. People really like Burger Night at Henry’s and for good reason.
As mentioned, there are other “frugal foodie” nights. I am a repeat offender on Thursday’s Fried Chicken. Fried Chicken, potatoes, corn bread, collard greens and gravy for only $12 – it’s a steal (thanks for the great pic). Also, it’s another very popular, busy night that offers a fun scene.
Wanting something a little more fancy than chicken or a burger? Well, perhaps Saturday night is for you. It’s the night of oohy gooey Lobster Mac & Cheese, made with four cheeses and local lobster for $18. You can even add truffle to that! Now I am really hungry for a luxurious dish like this!
Seven days a week, Henry’s offers you something delicious and affordable. Sometimes, it might be hard to choose, but don’t feel bad. There are many people that frequent Henry’s this time of year more than once a week.
More Than Dinner
Don’t forget, Lighthouse Grill, the main dining room at the Harbor View, is open daily for breakfast, and of course one of the best brunch’s on Island is available on Sundays. I always love a good brunch and a reason for a mimosa!
Save the Date
The Harbor View Hotel has some fun things coming in February. The 4th Annual Romancing the Oyster is happening February 11th. This event is also a fundraiser for the MV Shellfish Group, and is a great way to meet the folks behind our local oysters, like Julia and Ryan Smith from Signature Oysters — you may also know Julia as one of the members of our Point B rental team. Also, it’s a fun way to try the various oysters from our surrounding water. Check out last year’s event here.
A great way to have fun on Martha’s Vineyard if you’re staying home is for a little staycation. The Harbor View Hotel offers Cape & Island residents (with id) a special offer of $79 a night not only during February school vacation, but until the end of April. Think birthdays or girls weekend “getaway” and more.
It’s great to have such a large hotel on such a small island, really doing its best to offer things to do off season in addition to the summer. Thanks Harbor View!
