After a long day of Summer fun on Martha’s Vineyard, many people unwind with a cocktail before dinner. For the Summer, The Terrace at the Charlotte Inn is hosting “Vintage Cocktail Hour.”

Daily from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., you’ll find a cocktail bar set up in the Green Room at the Charlotte Inn, and some incredible cocktails.

As its name indicates, the menu is full of classic favorites, like an Old Fashioned, Manhattan or a Dirty Martini. In a world of trendy drinks, it’s nice to see the classics celebrated. However, each classic has been elevated with a Terrace twist.

For example, I had the the Charlotte Club. Partially because my daughter’s name is Charlotte and because of the ingredients. The Charlotte Club has Oxley Gin, St. George Raspberry Liqueur, and frothed egg whites.

Oddly, I really like egg whites in cocktails, when frothed, there is a creaminess added to the drink that is quite delightful. Add in the raspberry liqueur with the egg whites and the juniper and citrus notes of the gin, and you have a scrumptious cocktail.

Not only was the cocktail perfect, the presentation was very special. Alexa was on cocktail service when I stopped by. She was very knowledgeable about the cocktails, and nice to talk to. After she made my drink, she carefully poured it into a very cool vintage cocktail glass. It was quite the presentation.

It was nice to relax in the Green Room which creates a space that makes you want to enjoy your drink in leisurely fashion, in addition to feeling a bit sophisticated. You know you’re somewhere special, and The Terrace and the Charlotte Inn are very special. Luckily the Green Room is a little more casual.

It was nice to see others having fun with ordering classic cocktails from the menu. A very popular one is the Old Fashioned which is made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, fresh muddled orange, cherry syrup, bitters and a splash of ginger ale.

What makes this not your average Old Fashioned is that the cherry syrup is house made, and it’s not topped with jarred maraschino cherries, but ones made in house. These two housemade ingredients add for a much more interesting drink.

The Terrace makes as many things from scratch as possible, whether it’s a cocktail ingredient or pasta — the attention to detail is one of the things that make The Terrace so special.

Happy Hour, even the Vintage Cocktail Hour, would not be complete with out something to nosh on. The Terrace offers complimentary hors d’oeuvres, which change often. The housemade cayenne potato chips are defiantly not to be missed if you like chips at all. So good, I wanted to eat the whole bowl, but since I wasn’t sitting home alone, I limited myself.
