The Most Magical Weekend Before Christmas Is Here – Christmas In Edgartown

It’s finally here, Christmas in Edgartown! The whole weekend is chock full of fun holiday events, and I don’t know about you, but I am ready.

Christmas in Edgartown Martha's Vineyard 2014There’s so much to see and do during this fun-filled holiday weekend. If you’re in Edgartown, here are a couple of things you don’t want to miss.

Christmas at Noepe - Christmas In Edgartown Martha's VineyardOn Friday, perhaps you’d like to check out the Dickens Christmas display at Noepe, the Center for Literary Arts. This is a new addition to Christmas in Edgartown and continues throughout the weekend. I’ve not been to Noepe yet, so this might be the time.

Don’t forget that Santa comes to the Harbor View Hotel at 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. This is a very popular event since Santa does an extra special good job, and then between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Edgartown Lighthouse is lit.

If you’ve ever driven by, then you know this is an event not to miss, and also it is a great way to show Janice Donaroma the support from the community.

While at Donaroma’s don’t forget to stop by Bad Martha’s which is open for the Christmas In Edgartown weekend. There will be beer to enjoy and gifts available for the beer lover in your life.

To add to the fun, the ale that Bad Martha and Offshore Ale have collaborated on, “Old Colony Ale,” will be on tap. There’s only a small amount because most of the beer is going in Woodford Reserve whisky barrels, and won’t be ready until Spring.

Saturday: Christmas In Edgartown

Saturday’s events begin early. You can start at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum for their annual Jewelry Jingle where you’ll find great vintage pieces. There’s also Children’s Christmas Crafts happening at the same time. Both start at 9:00 a.m.

This is something I’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t been able to fit it in yet. Create your own wet or dry wreath or boxwood tree. Fees vary and sign up is not necessary but is encouraged.

Each year a number of my friends make stunning wreaths that adorn their homes and I love that they made them themselves.

Teddy Bear Suite bears in Edgartown Christmas parade

Get ready for the Christmas Parade from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. See all your favorite local parade floats, including the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite big bears. I hope to ride with my new buddy Obie. Dress warmly, get ready to collect some goodies from floats passing by, and be prepared for a laugh or two. You never know what the floats will be.

Chowder-ContestAfter the parade, you can make your way over to the Mini Park for the 30th Annual Great Chowder Contest and warm up. Also, you can continue shopping in town, grab a bite to eat and head over the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite which is open until 6 p.m.

Don’t forget the 22nd Annual Arts & Crafts Festival at the Edgartown School. There you’ll have the opportunity to shop as local as you can get. Enjoy the work of 40 Island artisans. Boy 22 years, we are good on tradition here!

Family dance-o-ramsIf  you need to entertain the kiddos a bit while you shop, have dad or grandparents head to the Family Dance-O-Rama at the Vineyard Square Hotel courtyard from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. You’ll be able to grab some pizza Stone Krazy Pizza and more.

Sunday: Christmas In Edgartown

The holiday fun continues with Breakfast with Santa Breakfast. It’s co-hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce and The Wharf Pub & Restaurant from 8 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at The Wharf! This is a packed, fun holiday event that is always a hit.

Elf-on-the-Shelf huntAfter breakfast, you can have your face painted with Elfie at Past and Presents, and do the Elf on the Shelf Hunt where children are invited to look for the Elf on the Shelf. Participating businesses will be hiding a festive elf in their stores. Find the elf and you’ll get a letter stamped on your passport.

Be one of the first 60 children to find all the elves and solve the word puzzle, and you’ll win a prize. Pick up your passport and bags at Backwater Trading Co. and finish your quest at Past & Presents.

Don’t forget that the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite is open too from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. too. There, the bears will be waiting to celebrate Christmas in Edgartown with you! You can play with the bears, read stories and more.

TTORAlso, you can take a Cape Poge “sleigh ride.” I just did the Cape Poge trip a couple of weeks ago with the Trustees and it was beautiful even though it was chilly. Chappy is so beautiful this time of year. For more information please call TTOR 508-627-3599.

There are so many more wonderful holiday events happening during Christmas in Edgarotwn – too many for me to list! Visit the Edgartown Board of Trade website for a complete listing – there’s something for everyone of every age.

The Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls ClubWe hope the weekend is a magical one for you and your family, and we hope to see you at the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite all weekend long and after too. This year it’s open until December 28th!

There isn’t an admission fee, but we hope that you’ll donate to the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club when you visit. The bears have a big fundraising goal, $15,000 and the Club is depending on this fundraiser for the renovation of the popular Games Room.

Obie the bear and James The Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club’s After School Program costs parents only $20 a year. Because it’s so affordable, and open to all, the Club needs a lot of support. If you can’t stop by and visit this weekend, you can also donate online. We’re more than a third of the way to our goal but we need your support. Donate here.
