Oak Bluffs Fish Market Celebrates Its Second Year: Lobster Rolls, Chowder And More On Martha’s Vineyard

Last year, I was so excited to write about the opening of the Oak Bluffs Fish Market. This addition to town, now makes OB a one-stop shopping destination. With Reliable Market (meats and groceries) and a couple of package stores, and the fish market, it’s all within a three block radius. Perfect for easy Summer living or entertaining.

A New Partnership

You might notice some new things when you visit the Oak Bluffs Fish Market. For starters, you’ll probably find new co-owner, Mike Holtham behind the counter. He has partnered with Sandy Fisher to help grow the market. Mike has a lot to offer.

Thinking that name sounds familiar? Well, this Islander has some pedigree. He has grown up in the restaurant business here. His family once owned the Homeport restaurant, and he has worked in several notable Island foodie spots, like Offshore Ale and State Road.

He also worked for the Menemsha Fish House for four years, really helping get the business going, which now serves as the premier water-to-table seafood provider for local fishermen and restaurants. Within those for years, he really honed his customer service skills and his knowledge of fish — both local and what’s available from the Boston markets.

You need something a little more unique, like caviar? Mike is your man. He is your resource for special order seafood needs.

However, he is most excited to offer a selection of local fish. With his relationships from Menemsha, he is able to get amazing local fish. Vineyard Bluefish and Scup, Chappy Oysters and Cottage City Oysters, are just a couple of the local offerings.

steamersThe Oak Bluffs Fish Market has also become a great resource for restaurants in town. Having someone so knowledgable about the fish business and the restaurant business is a great combination. He can really work with chefs to get what they want and need.

Takeaway

The Oak Bluffs Fish Market is now a good option for takeaway. At the moment, you can grab a lobster roll ($15), chowder, shrimp cocktail, and local oysters if you’re looking for a fresh, seafood inspired bite to eat.

Sand Bar Restaurant is right next door, and has some pretty good sushi options. It would be great to have something like that available to grab to take to the beach for a light lunch or dinner.

Mike and Sandy are also planning to offer steamed lobster dinners as an option later this Summer. Once again, a great way to make entertaining or beach dinners easier. Grab your lobsters and oysters from Oak Bluffs Fish Market, your beverages from Jim’s Package Store (right Next store), some sweet treats from the Sweet Spot (Dockside Market), and you’re set.

Mike is excited to be the local fish guy in OB. In January, when Sandy approached him about a partnership, he knew it would be a good fit. With his love of fish, and the fact that he has always wanted to own a business, this was an opportunity not to miss, almost tailor made. He is excited to create a legacy with his family, wife Jessie and their daughter, Jolene.

The Oak Bluffs Fish Market is a small, family run business that offers the freshest fish, and strives for incredible customer service.
