People wonder what Islanders do when the Summer months are over. The answer is this – we continue to Summer and enjoy the beauty of Martha’s Vineyard well into the Fall months.

Many of the restaurants are still open, and there are still lots of fun things to do. You might just have to look a little harder.

One of the things I recently discovered was “Music at the Cliffs.” On Thursday nights, through Columbus Day weather permitting, you’ll find live music at the Cliffs in Aquinnah.

Cliffhangers, one of the popular “food shacks,” stays open late, so you can grab dinner while enjoying the music. Now let me paint the scene for you.

My mom was visiting, and I told her I had some work to do, and she had to come along. Imagine her delight when we arrived at the Cliffs, and we were there for this experience. I had packed a cooler with some adult bevys and juice (for my kiddos), and even fleeces and pants in case it was chilly.

We arrived shortly after 5:00 p.m. when the music starts. We decided to get food early on, since it was in fact a school night. I really enjoyed my last experience at Cliffhangers, owned by Paul and Theresa Manning, and was looking forward to this one.

The menu offers a good variety. My mom got the chowder, which is really good. Maybe even one of the top five on the Island.

There really is a lot to choose from including tacos, burgers, salads, stuffed quahogs and more.

The kids were easy, chicken fingers and fries. The chicken fingers here are a good bet — they’re really good.

We grabbed a table a little away from the from the music, one that had a perfect view of Philbin Beach. The view was beautiful of course, and between music breaks, you could hear the waves. Enjoying good food, a view, and music, made for a really lovely evening for us.

And as the evening went on, a nice crowd of people gathered at the Cliffs. The music usually continues until sunset.

What better way to end the night than with ice cream. Cliffhangers also offers soft serve Blue Marble organic ice cream. We all got our cones, and walked up to the scenic overlook to take in the panoramic water and lighthouse view. Simply stunning, it never gets old. My mom just fell in love with it all, which really made me happy. That I was able to giver her an experience, that is just another Thursday on Martha’s Vineyard.

With ice cream covered faces, and full bellies, we called it a night. Leaving by 7:00 p.m., the evening was truly special, but was also doable for a school night and not even that expensive.

Cliffhangers

I would definitely check Cliffhangers Facebook for Thursday dinner specials, and to make sure the weather hasn’t caused any issues. However, if you can, add this Up-Island experience to your Fall Bucket.
