Jordan Wallace has been working on the Midnight Train Food Truck for the past two years. Yes, it is named after the song Midnight Train to Georgia because it’s open late night, and the most popular time happens to be at 12:00 a.m.

You’d be surprised at the affordable, delicious food that comes out of this tiny food truck in the middle of the parking lot. Jordan, who spent a significant time in Italy learning about food, is quite the chef. Creating classic, labor intensive dishes like porchetta, served over housemade polenta.

This slow cooked layered Italian pork dish was incredible, and the polenta was so cheesy and good and only $10. The flavors, the herbs, the whole combination, it exceeded all expectations, and it was fun having Jordan beam with pride at my surprise and delight.

Along side Jordan, you’ll find chef Scottie Blue (from Jimmy Seas). Scottie has been in a lot of kitchens on the Island, and he’s creating good food with Jordan. And, they’re both having fun. So much fun, you can see it as you wait in line.

There’s Frank Sinatra blasting from the truck, the guys are cooking and serving up food with a smile, there’s a party vibe, which is perfect, because being open from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. means they’re likely to get a party crowd.

If something fancy like porchetta doesn’t make your stomach grumble with want, then there are lots of other options. There are fried mac & cheese balls with a raspberry inferno sauce, pulled pork sandwiches with slaw on a brioche, lamb gyros with fresh tzatziki sauce, pulled pork tacos with mango salsa and housemade BBQ. All of these items are $10! There are daily specials as well, and the menu will vary.

I had a pork taco and it too was really good. The housemade BBQ sauce rocked! It was tangy and the mango salsa was really fresh. I was impressed.

Let’s not for get about the fries. The Midnight Train Food Truck serves up “big fries” that are light, soft and crunchy all at the same timed, served with a custom hot spice mix for you to use or not use for only $5! These were good too, but I am more of a traditional fry girl. I would however eat those pork tacos daily.

It’s food truck food that’s a little upscale and damn good. I was really, really surprised. After all, it’s a tiny truck in a parking lot. Jordan produces great food. Though the truck’s kitchen is small, the guys are lucky enough to be able to use the Sand Bar’s kitchen which is right behind the truck.

Not that I am out eating that late at night typically,  but when I am, I know where to stop by. Those mac & cheese bites are happening for sure. The food was really good with good ingredients, and affordable. I was very pleasantly surprised. Nice addition to the late night food scene along with The Ritz, The Lampost, and Fat Ronnie’s.

Please note, sometimes the Midnight Train Food Truck sells out…….something to keep in mind.
