When all the votes from social media were counted for the name for the new big bear joining the Teddy Bear Suite in Martha’s Vineyard, the runaway winner was Obie.
The naming nod to the Martha’s Vineyard town of Oak Bluffs follows a similar popular name-the-bear path as Obie’s three other big bear companions — Edgar, Chappy, and TisBeary.
Obie and all the hundreds of bears of the Teddy Bear Suite will be making their appearance much earlier this year, as the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite will enters its fourth year.
The Teddy Bear Suite at the Captain’s Cottages at Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown, opens on Thanksgiving Day, and be open daily until December 28th. See schedule of events
The annual Teddy Bear Suite is a fundraiser for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club, and its after school programs that serve hundreds of island children and their families. The fundraising goal for 2014 is $12,000. Supporters can donate online.
