Lobsterville Bar & Grill’s New Chef Serves Up Great Food With A Fabulous View

The Oak Bluffs harbor is one of those Island spots where you go to have fun, and there is fun to be had. An added bonus is the fact that you can get some great food there now as well.

Lobsterville Bar & Grille was lucky enough to get Doug Hewson (former owner of Mediterranean in Vineyard Haven), as its new chef. This is a serious score. Doug can cook. He works wonders with fun, and has a talent for making simple things scrumptious.

I really love sitting at a restaurant, overlooking the harbor. Watching the boats come in during the day, or the sunset in the evening, it really is part of Summer on Martha’s Vineyard. An added bonus is that it’s an easy walk from my house too.

When I stopped by to see Doug before opening day, we went over some of his favorites. He was excited about the new menu. He’s bringing fresh, delicious food to the harbor. Think beautiful lobster scampi and fresh fish, along with great apps and sandwiches, elevated food for the harbor dining scene.

Knowing that there’s a chef who is passionate about cooking and good food, makes Lobsterville an obvious choice for dining on Oak Bluffs harbor.

Not only that, but the second floor is one of the best spots to take in the view. The porch offers a water view from every seat, and it’s fun to be so high up. I don’t know why but I always feel like I am on vacation when I’m here.

This Is the Life

On a gorgeous Saturday, I took my family to Lobsterville for lunch. We leisurely strolled along the harbor, and were thrilled to be able to get four seats on the second floor.

I got the MV Mule, made with the new Martha’s Vineyard Distilling Company vodka, lime, simple syrup, and ginger beer to start, but the classic Pina Colada is a nice choice too (speaking of feeling like vacation). Also, a Pina Colada always takes such a good picture!

Doug came out to say hi. It was so nice to see him, and see him so happy. Also, it gave us a chance to ask him what we should try — what’s one of his favs.

He recommend the Ahi Tuna Crudo, and of course, you have to get what the chef recommends. Glad we did, it was light, flavorful, and perfect for a hot Summer day. The flavors were well balanced and it was something I’d definitely get again.

For my meal, I opted for the Lobster BLT. I can’t tell you why, but I had been thinking about it since I read it on the menu before Lobsterville was even open. So, I had to get that.

The Lobster BLT was really good. A lot of lobster, well seasoned, chocked full of lettuce and heirloom tomatoes, along with Lobsterville’s caper remoulade, and of course applewood smoked bacon. It was a good sized BLT, and was yet another great dining option for a hot afternoon.

I was full, but not overly. It was served with chips but you could get fries, even truffle fries instead, for a little more. My hubby got fries, so I was able to take a couple of his delicious fried potato creations.

Lobsterville was the perfect spot for lunch with the family. Thinking I might need to go back for dinner soon and try their mussels or the oyster po’boy.

However, if you’re not in the mood for seafood, there are plenty of other menu options. It turns out that I was in the mood for seafood and didn’t even know it.

I should also mention that the first floor has been renovated as well. Lobsterville is ready for an amazing Sumer season.
