Hooked…..The Whole Island May Very Well Be – New Oak Bluffs Restaurant

Hooked Restaurant Martha's Vineyard Fish House Restaurant Opens In Oak BluffsWow – the first word that came to my mind when I walked into Hooked.  I couldn’t even believe that it was the same space that Lola’s occupied.  Greer & Christian Thornton, from Atria, are the masterminds behind Chef Christian Thornton of Hooked Fish House oak Bluffs & Atria Restaurant Edgartown Martha's Vineyardthis new restaurant and renovation of a favorite Island space in Oak Bluffs.  Going into this, they had a specific vision.

They wanted Hooked to be a place for everyone who is on the Island. They wanted their restaurant to be easy and welcoming. To help with that, the decor  is reminiscent of an Island home, which they have definitely accomplished.  I don’t even think I can adequately describe how different the space is.  Even the vibe is completely different – relaxed and fresh.

Hooked Fish House Dining Room Martha's Vineyard Restaurant Oak BLuffsBefore we jump into the food that Hooked will be serving, I have to talk a little more about the space. When you walk through the entrance, there is a bar where you can grab a drink while you wait for your table.  I know that will make me a lot happier about waiting.

There is seating for 300 people, which I think makes this the largest restaurant on the Island, but I think there still may be a wait, since this is going to be a hot spot.  Walking into the the dining room you won’t believe the transformation.  It is now bright and airy with a neutral pallet and a nautical feel, with playful chalkboard art on the walls.  The booths, which afford a little privacy, are going to be just as coveted as the cabanas at the Delano in Miami.

Hooked Fish House New Bar Area Oak Bluffs Fish RestaurantGone is that little private dining room and in its place is a bar named the Oyster Bar.  What a clever use of space!!!  It’s a little more cozy than the main bar, and will be  the perfect place to grab a casual bite to eat or indulge in the $1 oyster special that Hooked is going to feature from 4-6 pm.  That place is going to be packed!!  I’ve already picked out the stool I like.  Speaking of stools, I love the ones in the bars, modern yet with a vintage feel.  I’ve already tested them out, and they’re comfy too!

The Menu At Hooked Fish House

Oak Bluffs Seafood Restaurant Hooked Fish House Martha's Vineyard RestaurantsLet’s discuss the food.  Hooked is the Island’s newest fish house, and it will not disappoint.  The concept of the menu is classic Americana seafood with a Vineyard flare.  There is something for everyone. We’re talking about lobster clam bakes, lobster rolls, Cioppino Fisherman’s Stew, Fish Market (where you customize your fish dish), fried Summer seafood platter, pork ribs, two kinds of fried chicken (one from heaven, nice and sweet and one from hell), spicy shrimp, and summer corn fritters, plus an extensive raw bar and so much more.  Desserts will be fun takes on some of the classics as well, such as root beer floats, and strawberry short cake.  I think the menu sounds delicious, and I like that they’ve had some fun with it too.

Lawn Games Area At Hooked Fish House Oak Bluffs RestaurantIs the menu making you think of Summers past with games of bocci ball on the lawn with a cocktail?  Well aren’t you in for a treat.  Hooked will be offering lawn games on their beautiful big lawn on the side of the restaurant.  Rumor has it that there are going to be really fun rules for picking teams.  I guess we’ll just have to go to see what they come up with.  Really – how fun is that going to be?  Lawn games before or after dinner with drinks and friends!  I hope they also put some comfy white adirondack chairs along the grass so we can watch the entertainment.

Cocktails At Hooked Fish House

Hooked Fish House Bar Cocktails Live Music Oak BluffsNow, let’s talk cocktails.  Of course there are a number of fantastic, creative libations, and I was there when the bartenders were being trained.  So I can say that we’re going to have some fabulous bartenders at Hooked.  Here are a couple of examples of the cocktails they were learning that caught my eye: Raspberry Mint Julep (perfect for accompanying lawn games), the Quiet American withTanqueray, St. Germain, grapefruit juice, and sauvignon blanc,  (I think this drink could get me in trouble), and Crime of Passion which is Ciroc peach vodka, sparkling wine, and frozen peach cubes.  Even though it’s 10 in the morning when I’m writing this, I would love one of these concoctions.  Of course there will be beer, you can even get good ole pitchers of beer, and a fantastic wine selection.  John is heading up the wine here as well at Atria so you know it will be impressive.

The main bar has been freshened up and has a bit more of a fun vibe to it.  If you want to just go to the main bar, there’s a separte entrance at the front just follow the sign.  This place is going to be happening all Summer long.  There will be music every night from Souled Out Sundays, to spinning by DJ Di (who is booking all the music?), to local acts.  This will be a great asset to MV since we are in need of a new, good music venue.

Hooked Fish House LogoLet’s recap.  Lawn games, great cocktails, fun menu filled with seafood and classics, fabulous decor, and lots of parking, need I say more? I think I’m hooked!  On a side note – I think they should sell necklaces with the hook from their logo.  I would definitely wear one in silver.

Hooked is having an opening party tonight, Friday night, May 25th, which is open to the public, and Hooked will open its door Wednesday, May 30th for the season.
