These days, a number of restaurant doors are still closed. However, Slice of Life on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs is open and offering a you a number of reasons to dine there, on top of the yummy food.
Seven years ago, the chef, Peter Smyth, and his wife, Jennifer, bought Slice of Life from owners Mary and Jackson Kenworth (Chef/Owners of State Road and Beach Road). Pete was the chef at the restaurant for the five years leading up to the purchase. Luckily, I was able to chat with him for a second!
Since then, this dynamic husband and wife team has been a year-round staple in Oak Bluffs. Jen and Pete, who live in Edgartown, love staying open year round and offering the locals and visitors an affordable dining option that’s also family friendly. Not to mention that they feel it’s important to provide year round employment opportunities.
Winter Specials To Warm You Up
With that, the couple has some amazing Frugal Foodie deals featured. One of the most popular, now in its third year, is the $10 lunch special, which includes a sandwich or pizza, depending on what the daily specials are, and a beverage. This BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza is one example of a Slice Special.
This is a pretty good deal, considering a lot of sandwiches on Island cost more than that. With this you get a drink too! You too can cash in on this find, Tuesday thru Saturday (yes a weekend day too) from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
I went to Slice on a Friday for the prix fixe three-course meal for $35. Slice has a great dinner menu, so much more than salads, sandwiches and pizzas. However, I did not actually get the prix fixe, I got lured away by their beloved Fried Green Tomato B.L.T. which features breaded and fried green tomatoes, arugula, applewood smoked bacon and basil mayo on toasted rosemary bread!
There had been a shortage of the green tomatoes, so it wasn’t available for a stint, so I felt like I had to abandon my plan and follow my heart (my stomach too). Boy do I love that sandwich, add a side of sweet potato fries, and a good beer, and I am in a happy place.
Slice does offer a nice selection of beer and wine, and additional beverages, something for everyone. Don’t forget that you can get coffee there too (with Mocha Motts being closed until May).
So, I didn’t take advantage of that deal, which is available on Fridays and Saturdays, but there are others I might try soon, that might interest you as well.
BOGO – Try A Different Slice
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, there’s a BOGO, buy one entree, get the second free. This is a great way for Slice to tempt people to try more of their menu options. Yes Slice has great pizzas and sandwiches but they have a lot more good dining options, and this is a good reason to try them
For example, someone like me, who loves the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich might love to try the Fried Green Tomato Pasta which has fried green tomatoes, garlic, caramelized onions, pesto and goat cheese tossed with gemelli pasta and finished with a balsamic reduction. Seriously – this sounds amazing and this is just one of the fast options available.

Also on Wednesdays, you can get the Slice burger, with LTOP for only $8.
On Thursdays, you’ll find a selection of “classic winter entrees” for only $15. Pete whips up some hearty, soul warming meals, that will fill you up and leave you wanting for nothing else.
If you’re into take-out, you can get two of Slice’s cheese pizzas for only $12 every day — a great deal for those of us with kids who are big fans of the pizza there!
These specials will run at least through the beginning of April. Don’t forget to save room for dessert. Even if it’s to go, you’ll be glad you did! The desserts at Slice are really good, guaranteed to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth!
When we were there, it was nice to see a number of familiar faces, like local Island author Thomas Dresser and his wife Joyce, in the restaurant, which offers a sort “at home” vibe. It’s relaxed and casual but you still know your palate is in for a treat. Slice is that place you can count on for great comfort food this time of year. The ingredients are fresh and the menu offers things that you might night find at other restaurants.
You can get a slice of the pie for lunch and dinner, Tuesday thru Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. Sadly you’ll have to wait until May for Slice to be serving breakfast again. Boy do I love their breakfast sandwiches on a homemade biscuit!
