Oak Bluffs Fish Market – Bringing Fresh Fish to the Oak Bluffs On Martha’s Vineyard

*Oak Bluffs Fish Market opening postponed to 2016.

With July in full swing, it’s nice to know that soon I will not have to travel to Vineyard Haven or Edgartown to pick up some fresh fish for dinner.

Oak Bluffs Fish Market

Oak Bluffs Fish Market is opening later this month which is pretty exciting for all of us who live, work or are visiting Oak Bluffs. Think about it, the only place to get fish before this was a maybe as a fish sandwich on the harbor.

However, now you’ll be able to stop at the Oak Bluffs Fish Market on Circuit Avenue Ex. Located next to the Sandbar and Grille, the fish market is going to be one stop shopping for your seafood needs, year-round. Think about how great this location is for boaters too, so convenient when in town.

Islander Sandy Fisher is behind this new endeavor. His family has been on the Island since the 1600’s, and water and fishing industry are interwoven into his family’s history.

In addition to opening the fish market, Sandy also fishes for conch and helps his father with his oyster farm. Needless to say, he is a busy man, but this, opening the market, has been something he has wanted to do for a long time.

Oak Bluffs needs this. It’s somewhat strange that this vibrant summer and year-round town does not have one to call its own. But, soon that won’t be the case. A fish market, and an oyster farm, Oak Bluffs is branching out from t-shirt shops big time, and I like it.

The space that is going to be home to the Oak Bluffs Fish Market has been completely renovated. It’s light, airy and welcoming.

The plan is to be open for the summer season from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and then year round. However, those hours can change, maybe longer if the demand is there.

At the Oak Bluffs Fish Market, you’ll find a good assortment of local fish, Sandy prides himself on this. There will be Bay Scallops, Chappaquiddick Oysters which are his father’s, and others of course, along with shrimp and even some exotic seafood, things you might not find at other markets on the Island.

In addition to all the fresh seafood, there will be sushi, lobster rolls, drinks and more. So, if you wanted or needed to,  you can eat on the go or take it to the beach with you.

I have visions of biking over to Oak Bluffs Fish Market, grabbing  fish, heading to Reliable to get all the additional fixings for dinner, and then on over to Jim’s or Our Market for refreshments. All within a short distance of each other. In-town living is getting even better.

Soon as Oak Bluffs Fish Market opens its doors, we’ll let you know. These pics were taken last week, so I imagine that the space is even closer to being done.
